Not having a medical background can make this very difficult. But a friend of mine is facing several health related issues, the unique case that I had outlined earlier. Finally I received word that the doctors had isolated the condition and it was mitochondrial dysfunction. The friend gave me a number to check if the disease has been correctly identified, and I cast the following chart:
First I decided to check if the doctors have diagnosed the patient correctly. If the 6th CSL is Mercury or is in Mercury's star; or if either the 6th CSL or the 6th CSL's starlord is posited in a dual sign (any one of them posited in a dual sign) then the doctor's diagnosis is wrong.
As is evident from the chart above, the 6th CSL itself is Mercury. Clearly the doctor's have been unable to figure about what exactly is the problem and are still on a hit and miss method.
Lets see if we can figure out what is happening. The 6th CSL is Mercury, which is posted in the star of Venus. The significations of Me are then: Me 1, 2 11; Venus 12, 3 10
Mercury implies communication. In this case, we would have to derive this to mean communication via nerves, ie the nervous system.Note, Mercury or 'Buddha' is also the 'Buddhi karaka', a significator of intelligence. Perhaps my friend isn't as sharp as earlier. Perhaps a bit more forgetful? Mercury is in the Ascendant. Ascendant implies the head or the brain. So this has something to do with the nervous system and brain.
Mercury is in Leo, Leo is a fire-y sign and indicates diseases of heart, blood pressure, immune system and spinal cord. She has no trouble of the heart so we will focus on the indication of immune system and the spinal cord. She does indeed face an extremely weakened immune system, and again we are getting spinal cord here...related to brain and nervous system.
Now lets look at the star of Me, Venus. Generally Venus suggests diseases that are caused due to overindulgence in sweets/food or sex. Disease/ deformation of the sexual organs or venereal disease is another aspect of Venus. Eye diseases, skin diseases and diseases of the urinary gland or the uterus. In case of women it will also manifest in trouble during monthly periods. This is interesting because indeed my friend has experienced lack of periods for a long time now.
Venus is the 12th house, this indicates problem with foot or the right eye. This is not immediately, clear to me for now. Perhaps the chart is indicating problem in the part of the brain behind the right eye? I don't know for sure, so will leave at that.
Venus is posited in the sign Cancer. Cancer is a watery sign and deals with the mind. It also represents the liquids in our body. She is facing depression and perhaps the 'watery' element of Cancer is telling us of a hormonal imbalance in the body?
Venus is in rapt conjunction with the Sun. Sun is the head of the planetary cabinet. It gives life sustaining heat and light. Sun deals with the immune system and as the controlling 'planet' in our solar system, it has rulership over the control centres of the brain. Sun represents the 'spirit' or 'energy' of an individual.
We can also see Ketu posited in the 8th house, aspecting the Sun and Venus with its 5th 'drushti'. Ketu is the natural enemy of the Sun and perhaps this suggests that the Sun's natural function of keeping the body immune and energetic is not allowed to be done by it,
Ketu is incidentally the Dasha lord of when the chart was cast. Its significations are:
House posited: 8
Aspected by: Nil
Conjunct with (<4 deg): Nil
Star lord: 3, 6 7
House lord: Jupiter: 1, 5, 8; star of Ju (Ketu): 8
Interestingly Neptune is aspecting Mercury by its 7th aspect. Mercury is the 6th CSL. Neptune's mysterious nature has transferred to Mercury resulting in the massive diagnostic confusion.
As I said, I am not a doctor, but collating information, I feel the blood work results are the symptom and not the core cause of this issue. I think the core cause lies in some issue with the control centres of the brain and nervous system that is causing this immuno-deficiency, depression and other physical issues.
So will my friend be cured?
Cure is seen from the 6th CSL. The 6th CSL must be in the star of a direct planet and signify any one or more of these houses 1/5/11.
A patient will be fully cured in the Dasha and Bhukti of planets, each of which signifies BOTH 5th AND 11th houses. If only one of the two houses (5/11) are signified, then the patient is not fully cured but obtains temporary relief and the condition can be managed somewhat.
The 5th CSL is Mercury. Mercury is posited in the star of Venus. Venus is retrograde as at the time of the Prashna. I check to see if there is any other planet that is also in Venus's star as if more than one planet is in star of a retrograde planet, then we can relax this retrograde rule. However, no such luck. Only Mercury is in the star of a retrograde planet. The condition is not fully curable. :(
What sort of treatment will be useful?
Treatment is seen from the 5th CSL. In my friend's case the 5th CSL is Rahu, which suggests that Unani treatment is best for her. Also, Rahu is in the star of Sun, which suggests Allopathy or western medicine is appropriate for her. Rahu's being in Mercury's sign may also say that Ayurveda will be of help. Since 5th CSL, Rahu is posited in Virgo, a dual sign, this means she can try multiple types of treatment at the same time.
The 6th CSL being Mercury, I can also suggest that she change the doctor who had given her current diagnosis. If not change, at least get a second opinion.
